Volleyball team bounces back with win against Parkview
October 1, 2019
The Hawks are off to a rocky start early in their season, but are looking to turn the second half of the season around as they work toward fixing team problems.
“We’ve had our ups and downs, but [the game] tonight [against Parkview Baptist] was good, so hopefully we’re on our way up” said Head Coach Rebecca Bonnafee.
According to Bonnafee and Senior Kennedy Flauss the team has struggled with team chemistry and decision making on the court. Flaus said that on the court there is a lack of willingness to go after the ball on tough plays, and Bonnafee agreed.
“We’re working really hard on passing- serve, receive-, defense, and blocking. It’s the defense part of the game that we are trying to concentrate mostly on” said Bonnafee.
Although their games may not reflect it, their practices have been mostly positive. The girls have been working diligently to correct their mistakes and rebuild the team after losing six key seniors.
“We have had our downs lately, we have not played as I would like us to. It is a big difference [without the seniors], but we do put in the work at practice and I do think with upcoming years that they can get everything on track and get everything together” said Flauss.
As they continue to work on correcting their mistakes and strengthening the team, the Hawks are remaining optimistic as they look ahead. There are still district games to play and the playoffs, and the team seems to have balanced acknowledging mistakes, but not fixating on them. Bonnafee said that it would be nice to return to the finals as defending state champions, but they must meet smaller goals before then.
“We want to play together as a team, we want to make it to the Pontchartrain Center, and win District” said Bonnafee.
