Volleyball Fall Classic tournament coming to the gym
October 1, 2019
The Archbishop Hannan Lady Hawks volleyball team are preparing to host their annual Fall Classic Tournament this weekend October 4th and 5th.
As of last year they won their own tournament. Hopefully this will be the case this year. Going into the tournament everyone is healthy and ready to play as hard as they can. This weekend is not all about winning, but also has some great team bonding opportunities.
This tournament will truly show how the lady hawks will do the rest of the season. We have held our own throughout the season with some wins and some losses. For example the Mandeville game.
“I knew they were a good team, but I knew if we played well we would give them a really good challenge and we had a chance to win.” Bonnaffee said.
This tournament also impacts the rest of the Hannan volleyball team not just varsity. As the tournament goes on the junior varsity and 8the grade teams work, eat fun treats, and spend time with friends.
“ I like the tournament because I get good food.” Analise Plunkett, team member of JV. “I also enjoy hanging out with friends.”
Throughout the weekend, this tournament allows the volleyball team that is not on the court understand the true efforts of being on a team.
Although it can be boring to work so many games in such a short amount of time it is fun to see skilled, athletic girls play a sport that they are passionate about.
“ Not going to lie it is actually kinda scary and stressful to ref such an action packed game.” Plunkett said.
These kinds of tournaments can cause a lot of stress, but when you think about it they do not count against you nor for you. It is truly just for practice and fun. These teams that travel to Hannan to play in the tournament are there to get better and have an experience as a team.
Of course these teams want to win, it is natural to have the urge to. On the back of this year’s lady hawks practice shirts, the seniors choose the quote, “Pain is temporary. Greatness is forever.” So far this quote has been true for the 2019 Hannan volleyball team.
