Hannan softball motivated after last year’s heartbreak

After facing a devastating heartbreak last year in Sulphur, the Lady Hawks softball team is dusting themselves off and get ready for the upcoming season.
“It was tough to lose last year with us coming so close to winning state,” said freshman second baseman Kristen Wegener. “However, I feel like the crushing memory of losing to St. Charles Catholic is really going to fuel us this year.”
All the girls are extremely excited for the new season, but they all agree there is things to work on to secure the title of State Champs. The Lady Hawks are constantly practicing and working situations to better ready themselves for the games ahead of them.
“We have been preparing each day after school, and I feel like that has really been helping us. It’s always the same routine of in and outs, but we need the reps,” explained Wegener.
The game of softball definitely is more than a hobby for this group of girls. They all take pride in the sport on and off the field.
They also shared that the softball team is a sisterhood to all of them. They explained that like any group of girls they argue, but they don’t let that mess up their actions on the field.
“Our group of girls is definitely always tries to be there for each other. We may have a disagreement here or there, but every sisterhood does. At the end of the day we know we count on each other, and that’s what matters,” added shortstop Alexis Dale.
The girls are excited to see how this year goes, and all share the same hopeful and determined attitudes. They plan to make this year one to remember.
“The road state might be challenging this year, however Hannan softball is determined to take the championship title once more,” said Wegener.
