February 8, 2019
The Lady Hawks basketball team suffered a loss this past Friday night against Albany, in the Hawks Nest. The girls were defeated 62-33 by the Albany hornets.
Before the game started the girls were a little bit stressed, but each one knew their role on the team was important and tried to play to the best of their ability.
Junior Gentry Spinks explained, “I am a little bit stressed and nervous before any of the games, but I know I have to go out there and play for my team. I know I have to play to my best ability so I have to put those negative emotions to the side and try and come up with a win in the end for my team,”
The Lady Hawks fell behind early in the game, but tried to stay focused to try and come back with a win at the end.
Gentry Spinks said, “The reason I stay focused during the game is because I know we can bounce back even if we fall behind, but obviously we became tired in the third quarter and lost one of our top players, so we were unable to bounce back to our full potential and win the game,”
In the second half of the game, the girls lost one of their starters, Junior Catherine Chuter, due to a big hit which knocked her head on the ground.
Sophomore Alexis Dale shared that, “Catherine is a big part of our team and it definitely hurt us when she could not finish out the rest of the game. Hopefully she can come back soon and play with us again,”
Even though the girls had been defeated this past friday, they are going to practice harder and are going to try and come out with a win for Hannan next game.
“We are just going to work on our fundamentals and communication skills, and hopefully win the next game for Hannan,” added Spinks.
