Spinks’ walk off powers Hawks to victory
April 16, 2018
At the recent Hannan vs Lutcher softball game, Gentry Spinks hit a walk off to win the game.
In the seventh inning, that’s where all the magic happened. Hannan was up 3-0, until Lutcher came back and tied up the score 3-3.
Hannan ended up getting three outs on Lutcher and had one more shot to come back and win the game. The first two hitters got out and the next batter was Allie Hutton, who kept them in the game by hitting a single.
Spinks was now up to the plate. She fouled two balls and only had one more shot to keep them in the game. “Once I did that I had two strikes! I was nervous but knew I had to hit the ball out the infield,” said Spinks.
With one on base, Spinks made contact with the ball and hit it out of the park for a walk off. This brought the score 5-3 to give the Hawks the next win to better their record.
The Hawks were great full to not have any injuries this game, but they had a major set back during the season with Alex Clesi, the starting pitcher, who was out with a hip problem.
“This has put a lot of pressure on Allie with pitching but she has been able to have confidence with her teammates she has behind her on the field,” said Spinks.
This softball season, the team has come together and started to play like a family. The team feels that in every situation they are in, they are able to work themselves through it.
The Hannan softball team looks forward to playing their biggest rivalry, St. Charles Catholic. “Last season they beat us in State after extra innings, and I just think that we need to come back and show them what we are really made of,” said Spinks.
