Hannan Blackfriars excited for ‘A Night of One Acts’
November 17, 2017
The Archbishop Hannan Blackfriars will put on an alternative fall production this year when they perform three separate plays; Bible in 30 Minutes, Nine Worst Breakups, Blue Mailbox Suicide Note – later this month.
The plays will run on November 30 and December 1 following the Thanksgiving break.
While the first two plays, Bible in 30 Minutes and Nine Worst Breakups, both have a comedic tone; Blue Mailbox Suicide has a more serious tone.
Each of the three plays will last 30 minutes or less.. The Blackfriars haven’t done a night of one act plays since 2014.
Senior Olivia Maurer said that’s it’s a different direction for the Blackfriars, but she thinks it really highlights the different talent of each member in a way that allows them to show off everyone.
“I’m most looking forward to The Bright Blue Mailbox Suicide Note because its different from anything we’ve ever done before. It’ serious and deals with difficult topics but I’m excited to see people’s reaction to it,” Maurer said. “I think it was a great choice for group we have now and the point we are at in our growth. Overall I think the whole production is really unique and will be something people haven’t seen before from the Blackfriars.
“There is some really hilarious comedies, but also a very serious act that shows off our range. I’m really proud of the work that everyone has put in and I’m excited for people to come and see it!”
Mr. Adolfo Rodriguez said the cast has been working very hard since rehearsals began in October.
“It’s been a real pleasure watching the cast develop these characters, their comic timing, and their vulnerability on stage,” Rodriguez said. “I am blessed to be able to work with such a talented group of students.
“I’m especially happy to have so many newcomers this year.”
The plays will start at 7:30 in the gym and tickets can now be purchased.
