Caroline Standley signs with Mississippi State

November 9, 2017

Archbishop Hannan senior Caroline Standley signed her National Letter of Intent in Heritage Hall at lunch on Wednesday in front of her family and friends.

Standley signed to Mississippi State to continue her track and field career in college.

Standley had been involved in the track and field team for five years, since her eighth grade year, and she is also on the varsity volleyball team. She says that her determination from the years before provided success and a good outcome for her years to come.

“Last year is when I really started to put hard work in to compete in college, which resulted in winning state,” Standley said.

Standley’s coaches, Michael Perniciaro and Karen Davis, are extremely proud and happy for her and what she has accomplished.

“I believe Caroline has improved because of her self-determination. She understands what she needs to improve and works hard to accomplish her goals,” said Perniciaro.

Perniciaro said Standley is ready to take the next few steps into her journey. He says that after this track season, he believes that she will transition into the collegiate level seamlessly.

Although Standley is ready to continue her career at Mississippi State, she plans to stay focused on this season, her last season at Archbishop Hannan, and becoming a better athlete.

Standley is very excited to join and start training with her new track and field team and to start a new school year at Mississippi State. She is looking forward to training in a new environment with a whole new group of people.

“The reason I picked Mississippi State was because I loved the campus and the people on the team. The facility really sold me, I was amazed by the weight room and track.”
