Archbishop Hannan confident heading into state tournament
November 9, 2017
For the third straight year, the Archbishop Hannan Hawks appear to be in a collision course with rival Pope John Paul II.
This year, though, the game won’t decide the Division IV state championship.
“Our road to the finals will be different this year since we are on the same side of the bracket as PJPII,” said Coach Rebekka Bonnaffee.
The team is more determined and confident going into this semifinal game.
“We have to stay focused and confident and claim our stake early,” said Bonnaffee.
The team is excited on going to the Pontchartrain Center this year to play their first game against Newman.
If they win against Newman, they will move on to the semifinals to play against their rivals, Pope.
The team beat Pope already during the middle of their season.
“Beating Pope in the regular season and all of the hard work we have been putting in has definitely boosted a confidence this year,” said Morris.
Both Morris and Grace Lagalante reached impressive statistical milestones this season.
Morris collected more than 1000 kills and Lagalante racked up more than 1800 assists. The pair were honored for their achievement at the team’s final home game last week.
“I feel super excited about my 1800 assists. It’s really nice to finally see all of this hard work paying off,” said Lagalante .
Morris said she could not have reached the milestone without help from her teammates this season.
“I was so excited to finally reach 1000 kills, and it feels like such an accomplishment. I never would have been able to do this without my teammates,” Morris said. “I can’t do what I do without a pass and a set.
“To be able to accomplish this with Grace, who reached 1800 assists, was amazing, and I’m so glad we got to experience this together, not to mention, I would not have been able to do this without her.”
