This year’s season for the Archbishop Hannan boys basketball team was one for the books. The games were full of excitement, passion, school spirit, and good sportsmanship, and it is always a sad time when basketball season has to come to an end. It is especially emotional for the senior players when their high school basketball careers are finally over. The seniors on the 2016-2017 Hawks basketball team were Pierce Dennis, Brooks Murrell, Nick Daniel, Drew Englande, and David Witte. These players put their heart and soul into the game of basketball, and their talent shows by all of their hard work and dedication. Their team isn’t just a group of kids who share a common interest; they are a family. Brooks Murrell says, “I’ve been really lucky to play basketball at Hannan for the past four years. Even though it has come to an end, I have made a lot of new friends and memories that I wouldn’t trade for anything.” Drew Englande says that some of his favorite memories include Senior Night, winning a district championship at Northlake Christian, and scoring his career high of 18 points at Thomas Jefferson. Basketball has given these players values that will last them for a lifetime. Pierce Dennis says, “Basketball has taught me dedication, and I’ve learned that a good work ethic pays off. I’ve also learned that team chemistry leads to success on and off the court.”
